OUR TEAM

For parents struggling with a child with a learning disorder, or adults with NVLD, life can seem overwhelming. That’s why we are committed to assembling an expert team to help families not simply cope with neurodiversity, but thrive. Our child-centric, holistic approach utilizes neurological assessment, psychotherapy, tutoring, medications, speech therapy, OT/PT, social skills groups, and school placement services.

John (Jack) M. Davis, Ph.D.
John (Jack) M. Davis, Ph.D.Psychologist
Jack is the author and co-author of five books and over fifty articles and book chapters in the areas of mental health consultation, suicide/crisis intervention, and learning disorders.

He is currently a Professor Emeritus at California State University, East Bay, where he continues to teach and supervise graduate students.

Jack has a special interest in learning disabilities and developmental disorders, having served as the director of Raskob Learning Institute, one of the best schools and clinics for students with learning disabilities for 13 years. His current clinical work is primarily proving diagnostic and intervention services to neurodivergent children and adults.

Dr. Miranda Melcher

Miranda is a teacher, researcher, author, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dr. Melcher received her PhD, on post-conflict military reconstruction, from King’s College London’s Defence Studies Department.  Her research and practice focuses primarily on working with neurodiverse students 1:1 and developing and delivering teacher training workshops on inclusive and accessible teaching practices. She is currently working in education technology at City, University of London,

She has taught students 1:1 from ages 13-72 in the US & UK across a range of areas including organizational skills, time management, research and reading, developing arguments for oral and written work, through a range of subjects (history, politics, international relations, English literature, economics, geography, philosophy, Model United Nations and more). Dr. Melcher also has over five years of experience teaching in both secondary and higher education, including through The Brilliant Club (socio-economically diverse UK secondary school students), King’s College London (War Studies undergraduates and Defense Academy military officers), the Ecole de Guerre in Paris (military officers), Northern Illinois University in the USA (undergraduate students).

Dr. Amy Margolis

Amy is the director of the Brooklyn Learning Center, Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and the Director of the Environment, Brain, and Behavior Lab.

She has a doctorate in Applied Educational Psychology: School Psychology from Teacher’s College and is trained as a clinical neuropsychologist with two decades of experience assessing and treating children with learning and attention disorders.

Amy is an expert in human neuroimaging and focuses her learning disability research program on the brain basis of psychological factors that affect children with learning disorders such as anxiety and executive function problems.

Recent publications from her lab include papers using functional MRI to study the neural correlates of executive functions in reading disorder, anxiety in reading disorder, and the effects of prenatal exposure to commonly used flame retardants on the efficiency of the brain’s reading network.

Karen is an exceptional Educational Therapist and Learning Specialist with 15 years of experience with learning disabilities and educational testing.
Lisa Cameron, MS, CCC-SLP
Lisa Cameron, MS, CCC-SLP Speech Therapist
Lisa is a Speech-Language Pathologist with 25 years experience providing speech-language therapy and diagnostic services.

She received her Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from San Francisco State University in 1984. She completed her post graduate clinical training at Children’s Hospital Oakland, and worked there for the first 8 years of her career.

Ms. Cameron served as Director of The Speech Pathology Group, a highly regarded private practice, from 1997 to 2014, where she remained an active clinician while serving in management and clinical mentoring roles.

Lisa established her own speech-language center in June 2014 to return to full-time clinical practice, and enjoys working across a broad age range with various communication challenges. She has lectured on social-pragmatic disorders and interventions, and on treatment of selective mutism using behavioral and pragmatic-based approaches.

Lisa actively participates in Continuing Education, and is a member of ASHA, SMG (Selective Mutism Group), and local multidisciplinary study groups.

Dr. Chuck Ahern
Dr. Chuck AhernNeuropsychologist
Chuck is a neuropsychologist with 25 years of experience working with individuals with complex learning difficulties.

He received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. As a predoctoral intern, he trained for two years in neuropsychology at Wake Forest Medical School, specializing in the neuropsychology of learning and in learning disabilities.

Chuck has completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center where he was an Irving B. Harris Fellow. He then joined the staff at UCSF Medical Center where in addition to his clinical duties, he trained and supervised psychology students and medical interns. He served for ten years on the faculty of Holy Names University.

He has conducted numerous trainings for educators and spoken frequently to parent groups. He has lectured nationally and is author of several publications including the book “Beyond Individual Differences” which was published by Springer Press in 2011.
